On 17-18 March, the German Federal Environment Ministry, the Federal Chancellery and the Federal Institute of Sport Science hosted a Peer Learning Activity (PLA) on Climate Change Adaptation in Sport in Berlin, bringing together representatives from EU Member States and organised sport. The PLA established a strong theoretical and scientific foundation, outlining the impacts of climate change on sport and physical activity, from extreme weather conditions to long-term infrastructure and health implications. Building on this, participants shared good practices and concrete examples addressing climate adaptation across different sports and contexts. Discussions highlighted that similar challenges are emerging across countries and sports. While many good practices already exist, participants stressed the need for stronger knowledge transfer and implementation mechanisms. Organised sport was recognised as a key multiplier, ready to support effective climate adaptation efforts across Europe.
