Coinciding with Olympic Day on 23 June, the launch of the 2026 #BeActive campaign and the #BeActive EU Sport Awards brought together organisations, individuals, and stakeholders from across Europe to celebrate their contributions to sport and society. During the ceremony for the #BeActive EU Sport Awards, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, and Cyprus’ Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, Dr Athena Michaelidou, highlighted the important role that sport initiatives play in fostering inclusion, community engagement, and social cohesion across Europe. Commissioner Micallef emphasised that supporting sport extends beyond financial investment, noting that recognising and celebrating the achievements of organisations, volunteers, and individuals is equally important. Awards were presented across five categories: Inclusion, Physical Activity, Volunteering, Across Generations, and Peace, with an expert jury choosing from 15 finalists. EOC EU Office attended the event, reaffirming its commitment to initiatives that promote the positive impact of sport throughout Europe. As the day marked the launch of the 2026 #BeActive campaign, which leads to the European Week of Sport in September, the EOC EU Office was also present at the Implementation Dialogue with Commissioner Glenn Micallef and other stakeholders from across the European sport ecosystem. This exchange focused on finding ways to strengthen cooperation, improving implementation, and identifying opportunities to expand the impact of the European Week of Sport across Europe. As a long-standing partner of the #BeActive campaign, the EOC and the EOC EU Office are happy to continue this dialogue and remain committed to promoting the power of sport to bring people together and encourage active lifestyles across Europe.
