European Weightlifting Federation joins the European Olympic Committees EU Office as partner

The European Olympic Committees EU Office (EOC EU Office) is pleased to welcome the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) as a partner, further strengthening the representation of the Olympic Movement at European Union level.

The European Olympic Committees (EOC) is the umbrella organisation for Europe’s 50 National Olympic Committees and works to promote Olympic values, inspire participation in sport, and encourage healthy lifestyles across Europe. Through its EU Office in Brussels, the EOC monitors, identifies, and analyses political and legislative developments relevant to sport, while representing the interests of the Olympic Movement before EU institutions. Acting as a permanent observatory, the EOC EU Office plays a key role in discussions on sport governance, funding, sustainability, and the future of sport in Europe.

The European Weightlifting Federation is the governing body for weightlifting in Europe, operating under the guidance of the International Weightlifting Federation. The EWF develops and promotes the sport across the continent in line with Olympic values, with a strong focus on integrity, fair play, and clean sport.

With the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between the European Weightlifting Federation and the European Olympic Committees, the EWF becomes a partner of the EOC EU Office as of 1 January 2026, retroactively. This partnership places European weightlifting closer to the European policy environment and to discussions that shape regulations, funding opportunities, and initiatives affecting the development of sport across the continent.

Through this partnership, the EWF will benefit from the EOC EU Office’s expertise and extensive network in Brussels. The federation will gain access to strategic information through regular policy updates, sport policy papers, and thematic reports, enabling it to anticipate legislative developments and align its institutional planning with the evolving European policy landscape. The agreement also foresees participation in key in-person activities, including the Annual Partner Meeting and the Special Competence Seminar, as well as tailored advisory support on EU affairs, sport governance, and European Union funding opportunities. In addition, the partnership facilitates direct engagement with EU institutions, including support for meetings and advocacy activities in Brussels.

By joining the EOC EU Office partner network, which now brings together 38 organisations from across the organised sports movement, the European Weightlifting Federation strengthens its institutional presence at European level and contributes to a collective effort to ensure that sport’s voice is heard in EU decision-making.
