On 29 September, the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) adopted its position on Erasmus+ 2028-2034 with a vast majority. The Committee calls for an overall budget of €47.39 billion, an increase compared to the €40.8 billion proposed by the European Commission, and for sport to receive a dedicated share of 4.1%, alongside 74.6% for education and training and 15% for youth and volunteering.
Several EOC EU Office proposals were reflected in the compromise amendments, including mobility opportunities for grassroots athletes and a broader definition of sport staff, covering also paid and voluntary personnel involved in managing sport organisations. The position furthermore promotes the European Sport Model and sport’s contribution to health, inclusion, employability and dual careers.
The report is expected to proceed to a plenary vote in November, with interinstitutional negotiations possibly starting early next year. The EOC EU Office will continue to follow the process and advocate for a strengthened Erasmus+ programme.
