SIGGS 3.0 Final Conference and Official Launch Marks a Milestone for Good Governance in Sport

The EOC EU Office successfully hosted the Final Conference and Official Launch of the SIGGS 3.0 project, a key moment in the ongoing commitment to promoting good governance in European sport. This hybrid event brought together a broad range of stakeholders and marked the culmination of a collaborative journey spanning several years.

A High-Level Gathering of the European Sport Community

More than 90 participants took part in the event, including representatives from National Olympic Committees, European and national sport federations, as well as academics and officials from EU institutions.

The conference opened with welcoming remarks from EOC EU Office Director Folker Hellmund, who reflected on the development of the SIGGS self-evaluation tool since its inception. He emphasised how each phase of the project has contributed to shaping a practical, adaptable, and forward-looking resource for sport organisations seeking to enhance their governance structures.

Following this, EOC CEO Dr. Jan Lehmann contextualised the project within the EOC Strategic Agenda 2030, highlighting how SIGGS 3.0 aligns with the organisation’s long-term vision and Key Strategic Priorities.

Adding to the strategic insights, Giuseppe Deleonardis underlined that good governance is a cornerstone of the Olympic Movement, essential for building public trust. He stressed the responsibility of sport organisations to lead by example—particularly in areas such as transparency, accountability, gender equality, and safeguarding.

SIGGS 3.0: A Practical Tool for a Strategic Goal

SIGGS 3.0 – Support the Implementation of Good Governance in Sport – is the result of a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. As highlighted in a discussion with former project manager Valentin Capelli, this initiative builds on a long-standing commitment to promoting integrity, accountability, democracy and transparency .

The newly launched SIGGS 3.0 self-evaluation tool is designed to be user-friendly yet robust, enabling sport organisations to assess their governance practices and implement targeted, meaningful improvements.

A Step Forward for European Sport Governance

The official launch of SIGGS 3.0 represents a significant advancement in supporting European sport organisations to build resilient, democratic, and accountable governance structures.

The EOC EU Office extends its sincere thanks to all speakers, partners, and participants for their valuable contributions, and to the European Commission for its ongoing support through the Erasmus+ programme.
