New Commissioner responsible for Sport

The new European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, in charge of Sport, was officially appointed on September 12 during the European Parliament plenary. Iliana Ivanova will replace Mariya Gabriel until the end of the term of office of the European Commission (Autumn 2024). During her parliamentary hearing, Ms. Ivanova  notably emphasised on the uniting role of sport for the EU, promotion of physical activity for Europeans' health and promotion of safe sport and gender equality. This designation will inevitably impact EU sports policies during the coming months.
