Working Party on Sport: Finalising Council Conclusions on major sport events legacy and first OMC mandate to tackle hate speech in sport

On 14 October, representatives of EU Member States gathered for a Working Party on Sport meeting in Brussels. A key focus was the finalisation of the Council conclusions on the lasting legacy of major sporting events. The draft conclusions were unanimously supported, with minor amendments, and will be submitted for approval through a silent procedure (Member States are able to voice objections, if none, the text will be approved). Equivalently, the draft mandate for the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) group “Fight against hate speech in sport” was approved and will now proceed for finalisation. The Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council meeting for the final approval is scheduled for 26 November.
