United Nations launches the Football for the Goals Initiative

On 6 July, the Football for the Goals initiative was launched by the United Nations, with UEFA as an inaugural member. The initiative offers a platform for football industry stakeholders to engage and advocate for the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using football’s influential reach.

Members of the initiative can include leagues, clubs, confederations, national associations, players and organized fan groups among others. Through the initiative, members will raise awareness of how SDG goals can be mainstreamed in sport along different avenues such as human rights, tournaments and sustainable corporate practices.
