Sport and physical activity play a key role in the newly adopted EU Cardiovascular Diseases Strategy

Prevention, early detection and healthier lifestyles are at the heart of Parliament’s proposed approach to tackling cardiovascular diseases. These priorities feature prominently in its new resolution on an EU cardiovascular diseases strategy (2025/2132(INI)), adopted on 16 September. For the European Olympic Movement, the resolution recognises physical activity as an important factor in preventing cardiovascular and other chronic diseases and calls for increased opportunities for physical activity from an early age. It identifies the sports sector as a key setting for promoting physical activity and healthy behaviours, specifically highlighting grassroots sport initiatives. It also calls for accessible sport opportunities across different age groups and healthier food environments in sporting facilities and at sport events.
