From 6 to 9 June, the citizens of the 27 EU countries voted for their 720 representatives in the European Parliament (MEPs). The results show a significant increase in the number of far-right MEPs (+ 13 seats compared to 2019-2024, in addition to those outside of the set political groups who are expected to join the far-right) and a significant drop in the number of centrist (- 23) and green MEPs (- 18). The liberal-conservative European People's Party won a modest number of seats (+ 8). The formation of the political groups has begun, and the constituent plenary meeting will occur in July. The EOC EU Office is currently mapping MEPs to identify who could represent allies of European sport and will start approaching those susceptible to advocate for the sports movement in the European Parliament's forthcoming discussions. The EOC EU Office will ask for a collaborative effort from all partners and EU NOCs to join forces.
