The European Declaration on Cycling was published by he European Commission on 4 October, demonstrating Brussels' political support for two-wheeled transportation means. The statement makes room for cycling in EU legislation and acknowledges cycling as a sustainable, accessible, inclusive, affordable and healthy means of transport that has a positive impact on the EU economy. It is expected that the statement will result in additional support for cycling, particularly from EU funding sources like the Cohesion Fund, the Social Climate Fund, and the European Regional Development Fund. Co-legislators in the European Parliament and the Council will now discuss and make changes to the proposed text.
