On 17 October, the Commission adopted its Work Programme for 2024, which focuses on the last four years' successes, summarizes the Commission's fresh ideas for the next months, and provides substantial measures it intends to pursue the next year. The newly adopted Work Programme outlines a number of new initiatives such as the “2040 climate target” or the “Commission Recommendation on integrated child protection systems” and paves the way for the finalisation of a number of pending proposals, namely in the field of environment and energy. It is the last annual Work Programme of the current College of Commissioners which will also be affected in its operability by the EU Parliament elections in June 2024.
