2024–2029 EU Commission takes office

On 1 December 2024, the new European Commission officially began its 2024–2029 mandate, following last week’s approval by the European Parliament and formal appointment by the European Council. Sport is given a prominent place in the portfolio of European Commissioner Glenn Micallef, highlighting its importance in promoting social cohesion and fighting physical inactivity. Key priorities of the Commissioner include strengthening the European Sport Model and supporting sport initiatives through Erasmus+ and the EU budget. In addition, Roxana Mînzatu, as Executive Vice President, has committed to promoting the Erasmus+ Programme by making it more accessible, including in the area of sport, while Commissioner Piotr Serafin will be a key figure in the negotiations for the EU budget (Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034), hopefully ensuring support for sport initiatives.

The EOC EU Office looks forward to collaborating with the new Commissioners to promote the value of sport across Europe.
