ABOUT THE PROJECT

Status
Quo

An examination of the current approach to athletes’ rights and responsibilities with regard to the roles and practices of the participating NOCs, providing a basis for further strengthening the protection of athletes.

European Framework

A robust European framework for Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities will guide NOCs and other stakeholders to implement a common approach in alignment with the Declaration across the participating NOCs.

Mentoring Guidebook

Personalised support will be provided to help build leadership skills and raise awareness of athletes’ rights through a specialised mentoring programme. In addition, NOCs will conduct training sessions for their staff members.

STRONG addresses the implementation of the international standard on athletes’ rights and responsibilities in European organised sport.

By assessing current gaps and improving established practices, the project will support NOCs in implementing educational courses for their athletes to exercise their rights and responsibilities, while strengthening the NOCs’ understanding of athletes’ rights and their capacity to implement aligned organisational policies.

KEY OBJECTIVES

1. Promoting Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilitie

In line with the Olympic values of respect, excellence, and friendship, STRONG seeks to strengthen the protection and promotion of athletes’ rights while fostering the understanding and fulfilment of their responsibilities.

2. Establishing the European Framework for Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities.

STRONG will develop a robust European policy framework—the European Framework for Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities — to guide the context-focused implementation of athletes' rights and responsibilities in line with the Declaration, as well as the participating NOCs and beyond.

3. Empowering Stakeholders through Training and Awareness.

Each NOC will conduct mandatory training sessions for its staff to understand athletes’ rights and responsibilities, and to equip them to develop and enforce policies aligned with the European Framework for Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities.

4. Building the Mentoring Programme.

NOCs will provide personalised support to build leadership skills and raise awareness of athletes’ rights through a specialised Mentoring Programme for participating athletes.

5. Sustainable Impact and Knowledge Sharing.

STRONG will build a lasting European network of NOCs and stakeholders dedicated to athletes’ rights and responsibilities. By sharing knowledge and best practices, the project will strengthen governance and athlete empowerment well beyond its duration.
