Regional Policy

In the period 2007-2013, cohesion policy will benefit from 35,7% of the total EU budget, or around 347.41 billion EURO.
The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Cohesion Fund contribute to three objectives: Convergence, Regional Competitiveness and Employment, and European Territorial Cooperation.
Sport infrastructures can be financed by the ERDF, but only under certain conditions, which are to be found in the various regional operational programmes. The ESF could also be used to improve the qualifications of actors in the sport movement.
Concerning the implementation of the funds it is important to emphasise that the concrete decision on the funding of projects is taken at national or regional level. Thus, it is not necessary to contact the European Commission directly to get project ideas financed. According to each country/region, different contact points have been set up. Therefore you are invited to get directly in touch with your regional public authorities.
